What is Montessori?
Montessori is a philosophy and education method that emphasizes the young child's potential and develops this potential by using special teaching materials. Montessori materials help the child to understand what s/he learns by associating abstract concepts with concrete sensorial experiences. The young child internalizes concepts through movement, repetition, using their senses, and manipulating tangible objects. Montessori provides a rich environment of well-structured tasks in a broad and far-reaching curriculum.
The children are permitted freedom of choice within a stimulating environment with clearly defined limits. Children work individually as well as in small and large groups. They become absorbed by their chosen tasks and experience a deep, inner satisfaction in doing so.
